Bike Kill
Black Label Bike Club hosts its fifth Olympics of ridiculous bikes,
public drunkenness, and cartoon violence.

NOTE: The Bike Kill is one of the best events in New York. It’s
intense, filthy, and uncomfortably careless with the human body.
There’s nothing else like it. It’s a real-deal happening, a public
expression of a culture that believes in, well, just doing shit. If
you haven’t been, loosely organized events — like chariot races and
a bike toss — go on all day long, really picking up around 4p, and
the whole thing ends with tall bike jousting. Homemade bikes litter
the street, and anyone who shows up can grab one for an event, or
just a ride around the block. Yes, there are snotty kids running
amok, and yes, some of the dudes look like they’re laughing at you
and your soft, white office hands, but these are actually incredible
folk, intensely independent and hellbent on creating their own
culture. We always walk away freaked out and a little disgusted –
and totally inspired.
